§ FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

Everything you need to know before working with AltaSeta Fabrics.

Getting Started
  • Start with an inquiry — through our contact form, email, or a direct WhatsApp message. Tell us about your project: the type of fabric you’re looking for, the garment it’s intended for, your approximate volume, and your timeline. We’ll respond within one business day and, if appropriate, schedule an introductory call to go over the details together. There is no commitment required at this stage.

  • No. Many of our clients come to us with a creative direction, a reference image, or simply a feeling they want a garment to convey. Part of what we do is translate that into a material brief. If you have a technical specification, that helps — but it is not a requirement to start the conversation.

  • Our primary focus is the United States and European markets. If you are based elsewhere and have a relevant project, we are open to discussing it — contact us directly.

  • We do not have a formal minimum project value. We do, however, work with a limited number of clients at any given time in order to give every project proper attention. We are best suited to clients who are serious about material quality and have a clear creative or commercial direction, regardless of size.

Samples
  • Once we understand your brief, we select the most relevant candidate fabrics from our supplier network and arrange physical sample swatches to be sent to your studio. Each swatch arrives labeled with full technical data — fiber content, weight, width, available colors, MOQ, and indicative pricing. You evaluate the samples and tell us what works and what doesn’t. We iterate from there if needed.

  • Physical samples are dispatched within 10–14 business days of your confirmed brief. Delivery time from Shanghai to the US or Europe is typically 3–5 business days by air courier.

  • Sample swatches are provided as part of our sourcing service. Courier costs for sample shipments are discussed at the start of each project and handled transparently.

  • We send curated selections — not the entire catalog. We match samples to your specific project needs. This saves time for both sides and ensures what you receive is actually relevant to what you’re making.

  • We go again. We’ll ask more targeted questions, adjust our search parameters, and source a second round of candidates. We’d rather take the time to find the right material than rush you into a compromise.

  • Yes. Send us a physical swatch, a lab dip reference, or a written technical specification and we will work to source the closest available match. If an exact match isn’t achievable within your parameters — in terms of construction, timeline, or budget — we’ll tell you clearly and present the nearest alternatives.

Materials & Quality
  • Our core offer covers four categories: silk, cashmere, wool, and linen — all in the premium and luxury segment. Within each category we work across a range of constructions, weights, and finishing treatments. We do not source fast-fashion or commodity fabrics.

  • The mills we work with do not advertise on Alibaba. Access to them is built on long-term relationships, trust, and the ability to communicate in professional and technical terms about what quality actually means. The fabrics we source are evaluated in person against specifications we set — not described by a supplier and accepted at face value.

  • Every fabric we recommend has been physically assessed by our team — for hand feel, fiber composition, weave consistency, finishing quality, and conformity to the stated technical specifications. For confirmed orders, we conduct in-person quality inspection at the mill before shipment.

  • Yes. Our supplier network includes mills certified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS, and GRS. Specific certification availability varies by fabric and mill. Documentation is provided upon request for every material we supply.

  • Yes. If your project requires something specific that we don’t currently carry, we commission a targeted sourcing effort. This is part of our core service. The timeline for off-catalog sourcing is typically 2–4 weeks to first sample.

  • Custom colorways and print development are available for most fabric categories, subject to minimum quantities agreed with the mill. Discuss your color requirements at the briefing stage and we will advise on what is achievable and at what volume.

  • For clients with defined technical requirements and sufficient volume, mill development is possible. This involves longer lead times, sampling rounds, and lab testing. Contact us to discuss whether your project meets the threshold for custom development.

Minimums & Pricing
  • MOQs vary by fabric category and mill. As a general guide: silk and linen from 100 meters per colorway, cashmere from 50 meters per construction, wool from 100 meters. These are starting points — contact us to discuss your specific volume and we will find the most appropriate solution.

  • Yes. We actively work with emerging and independent designers whose volumes are smaller than standard factory minimums. Our relationships with mills allow us to negotiate access that would not be available to a new buyer approaching the same factories directly. We will be honest with you about what is and isn’t achievable at your scale.

  • Our fee structure is project-based and discussed transparently at the initial consultation. We do not take undisclosed commissions from suppliers. The price you see for a fabric is the mill price — our service fee is separate and agreed upfront.

  • Yes. Raw material prices — particularly for cashmere and silk — are subject to seasonal and market variation. We provide indicative pricing at the sample stage and confirm exact pricing at the point of order. We do not lock in pricing until an order is formally confirmed.

  • We don’t publish a fixed price list because fabric pricing depends on construction, colorway, quantity, and current market conditions. The most efficient approach is to submit a brief and receive pricing as part of your sample package.

Orders & Production
  • We confirm current stock or production availability with the mill, finalize pricing, and issue a written order confirmation for your review. Once you approve the confirmation, we collect the deposit and place the order. Production scheduling, quality inspection, and shipping are managed from that point by our team.

  • For in-stock or short-run production: 3–5 weeks from order confirmation to shipment. For custom colorways, prints, or larger volumes: production timelines are agreed individually at the order stage. We do not give timelines we cannot stand behind.

  • Mill visits can be arranged for established clients with significant ongoing volume, subject to supplier agreement. For most new client relationships, we represent your interests on the ground directly.

  • We conduct quality inspection at the mill before shipment precisely to prevent this. In the event that a discrepancy reaches you, contact us immediately with documentation. We will work with the mill to resolve the issue — whether through replacement, credit, or another agreed remedy.

Shipping & Logistics
  • Yes. We organize shipment from the mill to your destination and provide all necessary export documentation. We work with established freight partners for both air and sea shipping.

  • Air freight from Shanghai to the US or Europe: typically 5–7 business days. Sea freight for larger volume orders: 25–35 days depending on destination port. We recommend air freight for samples and time-sensitive orders.

  • Export documentation and compliance are handled by our team on the China side. Import duties, taxes, and customs clearance in your destination country are your responsibility. We can recommend experienced import freight brokers in the US and EU if you need support on that side.

  • We ship to the United States and Europe as our primary markets. Shipment to other destinations can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Working Relationship
  • Your primary contact is Nataliia Yakovlieva — founder and head of sourcing. For projects in active production, our Shanghai-based team handles day-to-day coordination and mill-side management. You will always know who you are speaking with and what their role is.

  • English is our primary client-facing language. Our team also works in Chinese, which is essential for direct mill communication, negotiation, and quality management on the ground.

  • We communicate primarily by email for formal matters — briefs, confirmations, documentation. WhatsApp is available for active projects and time-sensitive updates. Video calls are available for introductory consultations and project reviews.

  • Yes. We understand that fabric development is often commercially sensitive. We are willing to sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement before any detailed project discussion. Contact us to request our standard NDA or to share your own.

  • Our sourcing network is our own. We do not manage third-party supplier relationships you’ve established independently. However, if you are looking to consolidate your sourcing through a single trusted partner, we are happy to discuss how that might work.

  • We intentionally limit the number of active projects we take on. This is a deliberate choice — it allows us to give every client and every brief the attention it deserves. If we are at capacity when you reach out, we will tell you and discuss timing.

Sustainability
  • We work exclusively with mills that meet internationally recognized standards — OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS, and GRS. Natural fibers — silk, cashmere, wool, linen — have inherent environmental advantages over synthetic alternatives when sourced responsibly.

We are also honest about complexity: no textile supply chain is without environmental impact. We help clients make informed material decisions, not just reassuring ones.

  • Yes. Our current sustainable offer includes GOTS-certified organic linen, Peace Silk (Ahimsa), recycled cashmere blends, and recycled wool constructions. These materials carry a premium in both price and lead time. We are transparent about both.

  • Yes. For clients with ESG or supply chain transparency requirements, we can provide mill-level documentation including fiber origin, certification records, and production site information, subject to supplier confidentiality agreements.
